Hi Book Club folks:
It looks like we will be changing book club to Thursday, July 28th. I'm really sorry and I hope this still works out for everyone. This is an unusual month. I'll bring refreshments: hot bread made with freshly ground wheat, unprocessed honey and Sarah's homemade butter and buttermilk. Seems kind of old-fashioned & country, like Manifest. (I decided against Velma T.'s "Medicinal" Elixer.) Also, I forgot to bring my boiled peanuts for Wish You Well (I bought them near Chattanooga when we drove through and planned to bring them to book club), so I'll bring those, too. If you've never had boiled peanuts, they're kind of weird, but they grow on you. Like grits. Hope to see you there! Barbara We're a little short on hostesses, so the plan at this point is to have it at the church in July and then "choose" the new Jane Eyre movie (which comes out mid-august) to watch as a group for August. Whoever hosts movie night can choose the next book (for September). Confused? Basically, August is a movie and we're back to books for September (unless someone wants to host on July 26th). Book Club will likely be Tuesday, July 26th at the church at 7:30. Mark your calendars (in pencil). We will be discussing Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool: the surprise winner of the 2011 Newbery Award. There are some really good discussion questions here: http://www.splore.com/splores/787 (may contain spoilers). |
